Sodium Dextran Sulfate(DS)

Small-molecule polymer; water-soluble with good skin absorption; excellent skin tolerance; ECOCERT certified, classified as low-irritation ingredient under EWG VERIFIED; dual benefits: rapid anti-inflammation & redness reduction and comprehensive anti-aging

Documentation

Product overview

Sodium Dextran Sulfate DS effectively inhibits cyclooxygenase COX-2, suppresses the secretion of prostaglandin PGE2 and reduces photosensitive erythema. It exhibits favorable effects on redness and swelling induced by various chemical or physical skin lesions.

Composition Information

Component TypeINCICASEC
ComponentsSODIUM DEXTRAN SULFATE9011-18-1

Mechanism of Action

1. Soothing & redness-relieving pathway: Inhibit COX‑2 cyclooxygenase activity, reduce prostaglandin PGE2 production, block inflammatory cascade reaction, relieve skin inflammation and mitigate UV-induced photosensitive erythema.
2. DNA protection & anti-aging pathway: Upregulate GADD45ɑ expression to assist in repairing damaged DNA and counter cellular stress; upregulate TP63 expression to promote proliferation and migration of skin stem cells, maintain epidermal integrity and slow down skin cell senescence.

Experimental Data

1. COX‑2 gene expression inhibition test (NHDF human fibroblasts): 0.1 mg/mL yields 45% inhibition; maximum inhibition of 61% is achieved at 1 mg/mL. The effect increases with dosage.
2. PGE2 secretion inhibition test (human keratinocytes, PMA pro-inflammatory stimulation): At sample concentration of 2 mg/mL, the maximum inhibition rate of PGE2 secretion reaches 82%.
3. Human phototoxic erythema in-vivo test (0.4% Hongfuxiu DS lotion): It achieves 24% inhibition against UV-induced photoresponsive erythema.
4. TP63 gene expression promotion test (NHDF cells): 0.1 mg/mL gives 115% upregulation; 1 mg/mL gives 171% upregulation in a dose-dependent manner.
5. GADD45α gene expression promotion test (NHDF cells): 0.1 mg/mL gives 74% upregulation; 1 mg/mL gives 157% upregulation in a dose-dependent manner.

Product specifications

INCI Name: SODIUM DEXTRAN SULFATE
Source: Sodium dextran sulfate is produced via esterification reaction between dextran and chlorosulfonic acid.
Recommended dosage: 0.1‑1%
Appearance: White to pale yellow powder

Key benefits

1. Clear anti-inflammatory & redness-reducing pathway; inhibits COX‑2 and reduces release of PGE2 inflammatory mediators, improves photosensitive erythema triggered by UV and relieves inflammatory redness of skin.
2. Dual efficacy of DNA repair + anti-aging; promotes expression of TP63 and GADD45ɑ genes, repairs damaged DNA, stimulates stem cell proliferation, maintains intact epidermal structure and delays cellular senescence.
3. Small molecule with water solubility, good skin penetration and absorption; low irritation, holds ECOCERT and EWG safety certifications.
4. Effective in both in vitro cell assays and in vivo human tests; efficacy shows positive dose correlation
